A Monday walk

Did you have a good weekend?

I went to this pool in the Botanic Gardens yesterday. It was so great to swim a few lanes, to read in my book afterwards and just walk home with the towel over my shoulder. I really enjoyed this and plan on doing this more often.

And today was another very nice Spring day here in Sydney. I decided to go out for a walk and also bring my camera with me...

red - green and a ferry ride

I am really fond of ferries - I always enjoyed this bit of my trips to Copenhagen most when I lived in Hamburg or remember the many times when I was a kid and my grandmother took me with her on a little trip.

On Tuesday I went on a really small ferry trip to Balmain which is a neighbourhood here. It was 25° and actually quite humid and I think this is why I didn't take so many pictures, despite the fact that it is quiet a pretty area. I think I need to go back on a Saturday when they have their weekly markets there. Anyways, after I came back I realized that the images I took show lots of green and red :)

Have you listened to the new album from Sufjan Stevens, yet? It is so different to his older stuff but so great. We can't stop listening to it and wish he would come down under for a concert.

this and that

It is Monday already. The weekend went by so fast, don't you think.

I hope you had some lovely few days...

The weather was so beautiful here in Sydney yesterday that I went out for a long walk, sat in the park, read and realized that the city is getting greener and greener and also gets this special glow.

#1+2 Again the great Single Origin Café, apart from the coffee they do amazing lunch, too.

#4+5 Pictures I took yesterday while walking through Paddington. I loved the glow of the trees in the streets there.

#6 I got myself a little something in this pretty store. An analog reminder in form of a wooden pear. It can carry little notes.

Random

Here are a few images from my last two days.

#1-4 I was out for a walk in Elizabeth Bay - saw a great house wearing a 'green eyemask' and a cobweb which looked like it was lots of work:) Walking there I stumbled over a nice wooden chair, standing there with all sorts of other stuff ready to end up in the trash. I took it with me, cleaned it, oiled the wood and put new fabric on it. I already love it.

# 5/6 I also wanted to show you two of the little bags I made for friends. They are so easy to make and it is so much fun to put fabric together and sew it.

# 7/8 I like how those two images sort of fit together. They look so much like Spring. The rich green, brown and light pink. I saw this tree full with berries today, the berries will turn darker and you can actually eat them. You just need to be faster than the birds.

9-12 A few more shots I took around Surry Hills. If you are in Sydney, make sure you have a coffee at Single Origin. They roast their own beens and you can really taste it. Such good coffee.

#13 A snack I just made. I am trying to track down a store here at which you could actually buy goat cheese with a rind.

Showing around

We had friends over from Germany who visited us for a couple of days. It was great to show places I like but also to be a bit of a tourist myself in the city I live in.

Here are a few snapshots of the more touristic things we did....

#1-3 Around and in the Opera House

#4 Pantomime at Circular Quay

#5 Giraffes at Taronga Zoo. I was amazed how beautiful this zoo was and you get an amazing few over Sydney too.

#7 We had dinner at Din Tei Fung and the hour wait was so worth it. They make the best dumplings, if you have the chance to go and eat there...you should really do it!

#8 The lonely swimmer. It was quiet windy on Saturday and we walked along the cliffs from Bondi to Bronte. The waves were really high and we watched the surfers having fun with them.

#9 On our way back from Manly we came closer to the opera and it felt like standing in front of a famous painting in a museum with so many people standing there and taking pictures :)

Vivid

Vivid is the word I learned this week.

I think there is not one day at which I am not picking up new words or expressions -- and here in Australia especially shortenings of words.

'Brekky' for breakfast, 'barbie' for BBQ or 'telly' for TV I think is something you could guess but 'ambo' for ambulance, 'salvo' for Salvation Army or 'ta' for thanks create sometimes a bit of a confused glance on my face ... :)

It was a really nice Spring day today. I was out for a walk...felt the sun on my face, saw many shadows, stumbled over the amazing shelf/life store in Surry Hills and saw a hairdresser I could imagine going to when I need to ...

#7 I passed this really great arts book store...they have such a great assortment of books. I saw a Japanese book about Nordic design with the most beautiful images. I am thinking of getting it...such a pity that I can't read it.
